The General
Practice Research Database Since 1987, the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) has grown from its VAMP Research beginnings to a database so respected and academically valuable that it was taken under the umbrella of the Office for National Statistics and is now managed by the GPRD Division of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which was formed by a merger of the Medicines Control Agency (MCA) with the Medical Devices Agency (MDA) on 1st April 2003. Representatives of the User Group have worked over these years to preserve the broad base, the high quality and the integrity of the data. They have achieved increased payments for data-supplying practices; continue to monitor the ethical and regulatory issues relating to data supply and to press for increased feedback to practices on data quality. Data suppliers and members of the User Group have access to the Recording Guidelines and other helpful information and feedback, which may assist with the “new contract”. Members can access the members-only section of this website to access the Guidelines online. GPRD pages in members only section
